Costa Rica Student Mission Trip 2024

The Costa Rica High School Student Mission Team will be serving in the communities in and around San Jose. The team will work alongside our mission partner One More Child by providing care and tangible resources to children and families living in impoverished communities. In partnership with several faith-based ministries and churches the team will help prepare and distribute food packages to families and be part of an ongoing discipleship training program for children and teens. The team will have the opportunity to make home visits for evangelism and prayer with local families. The team will also help lead youth ministries and activities that include singing, Bible stories, crafts, sports and games. Most importantly, there will be opportunities for personal spiritual growth, relationship development among team members, meaningful devotional and worship time, and quiet times for reflection and prayer.

APPLICATION OPENS: August 30th 
APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 31st
NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE: November 6
$250 DEPOSIT DUE: November 10
 
TRIP COST: 

• $1750 per person
• Cost covers airfare, ground transportation, meals, accommodations, taxes, tariffs & fees, team shirt, travel insurance, devotional journal. 
• Team members are responsible for their own spending money for snacks or souvenirs.
• Payment due dates:
  • Deposit                     Upon acceptance        $250
  • Payment #1               December 15             $500
  • Payment #2               January 15                 $500
  • Final Payment           February 15                $600 

DEPOSIT: The $250 deposit is paid using the credit card on file with the online application or by a check made out to Christ Journey Church. Please notify the Missions Office with your preference, otherwise your credit card will be charged $250 upon receiving acceptance email.
 
FINAL PAYMENT: 
If final payment is not completed by the deadlines set above, the credit card on file with Service Reef will be charged the remainder of the trip cost owed at least 14 days before the first day of trip.
 
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPROVAL AS A COSTA RICA 2020 MISSION TRIP TEAM MEMBER:

• Church membership is preferred but not required
• Has served as a volunteer at a Christ Journey City Serve or local mission project during middle or high school
• Prior global mission trip experience with Christ Journey Church is preferred but not required
• Has received the recommendation of two Christian mentors or other Christ followers
• Is an active member of a group
• Regular involvement in Christ Journey Student Ministry is preferred but not required
• Is willing to attend all team meetings
• Has a passport which is valid for at least six months past the date of trip

RISK LEVEL INFORMATION

• Costa Rica: Level 2 Intermediate Risk
• Global missions Level 2 as defined by: moderate language barriers, moderate cross-cultural setting, developing country

IMMUNIZATIONS:
All team members are to make their own decisions regarding immunizations and medicines for in-country travel based on the CDC recommendations and consultation with a primary care or international travel physician. Immunization expenses are the responsibility of the team member.
 
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBLITY:
Acceptance onto the team requires an immediate $250 deposit with the credit card on file or by check. All financial obligations for the trip are the responsibility of the team member. Failure to meet financial deadlines may result in cancellation of being a team member. Remember to trust God to provide as you respond to the call to go on mission – “Where God guides, He provides!”
 
DONATIONS:
Any monetary donations designated for a team member are tax-deductible as allowed by the IRS and are non-refundable.

SPECIAL NOTE:
If the number of applications for this trip exceeds the number of available spaces, then priority will be given to Christ Journey members and then to Christ Journey attendees. Applicants who are not members of or who do not attend Christ Journey Church will be considered on a case-by-case basis and only if there is space available.
